K9 Back on patrol-with new gear
K-9 back on patrol – with new gear
Sacramento Police K-9 Bandit is back on the job after the 4-year-old German shepherd was shot in the neck during a home-invasion robbery in March.
Since returning to patrol six weeks ago, Bandit has apprehended four suspects, said K-9 Sgt. Steve Oliveira.
The community responded so strongly to Bandit's story that the Sacramento Police K9 Association collected more than $20,000 in donations, which paid for bulletproof vests for the entire K-9 unit.
Oliveira said the vests are useful for critical incidents involving armed suspects and SWAT operations, like last week's Arden Way standoff. Police and sheriff's canines assisted, all equipped with vests.
