Officer Keith Hoversten

K9 : Sonic

Officer Hoversten has been with the Sacramento Police Department since February of 1992. He worked 13 years as a patrol officer in the Del Paso Heights area prior to his assignment to the K-9 Unit. He was assigned to the K9 Unit in September of 2006.

Sonic is a 96-pound purebred German Sheperd Dog. He was born in the Republic of Slovakia (formerly Czechoslovakia), in February of 2005 and was imported by Adlerhorst International Kennels of Riverside California. He has been with Officer Hoversten since November 10th , 2006. Sonic lives with the Hoversten family and can’t wait to come into work each day. When Sonic sees Officer Hoversten come out of the house in uniform, he begins spinning circles in his kennel.

Sonic is sponsored by the "Sonic Burger Corportion". The owner of the Sacramento area restaurants, Mike Alizadeh, was generous enough to supply the Sacramento Police Department with the necessary funds to purchase Sonic and make him part of the canine team. Sonic restaurants are more than a great place to grab an Extra-Long Cheese Coney and a Cherry Limeade. From first jobs to first dates, Sonic has provided the setting for many milestones in their customers' lives. Thanks to their loyal customers and employees, they're an integral part of the cities and towns in which they operate.
