Officer John Harshbarger

K9 Brig

Officer John Harshbarger joined the Sacramento Police Department in 2000. Officer Harshbarger worked 6 years of patrol primarily in the North Sacramento area. Officer Harshbarger was selected to POP (Problem Oriented Policing Team) in 2005 addressing problems in Del Paso Heights and nearby neighborhoods. In 2006 Officer Harshbarger was assigned to P.I.T. (Parolee Intervention Team) whose focus was locating and arresting parolees on the run and checking their compliance with conditions of parole. Officer Harshbarger has worked assignments on Violent Crime Reduction Teams and Crime Strategies Teams. He is a member of the Rifle Team and a part time EVOC instructor. In September 2010, Ofc. Harshbarger was chosen to become a member of the K9 Unit. Ofc. Harshbarger was joined with K9 “Brig”, a 60 pound Belgian Malinois, who was born in November 2008. In addition to suspect apprehension, K9 Brig is also cross-trained in Narcotics Detection and Article Searching. K9 Brig loves to go to work, but while at home he enjoys all the comforts. His favorite place to sleep is upside down against the dining room wall and he is showered with attention from his family.
